Given that the Boeing 747 jumbo jet first flew 40 (yes! February 1969) years ago, it's easy to get blasé about the sight of such a magnificent aircraft. Especially if you live near to an airport where the 747 is a common sight. Yet here at Okęcie, where large four-engined jets are a rarity, the sight of a jumbo coming into land, flaps down, gear out is quite something. So I was excited to see the on-line radar on my desktop announcing that El-Al's 747-400 4X-ELD is approaching Warsaw. Unfortunately the pics were taken into the sun, but still, quite a sight to behold. It's been almost two and half years since I last saw an El-Al jumbo over Jeziorki.

I would have loved to have been on Al. Krakowska when this flew over! The WizzAir A320s are impressive enough if you're in the right position. I imagine it made a few people cross the white line!
any chance of a link to the online radar?
Here are some links:
Air Traffic Control for Warsaw:
http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=epwa
Radar (Scandinavia, but scroll down the map a bit, all Poland is shown): http://www.flygradar.nu/flygradar.php
Radar Poland (you need to register, not such nice interface, more traffic shown though): http://radar-2.piopawlu.net/
With these three sites, you can easily find out everything about air traffic over your house (even at 37,000 ft).
Thanks for those links Michael. The Scandinavian map is fascinating. I've just watched an Air France jet approach Warsaw, and the next one to arrive appears to be a Nowegian 737. However, although I'm listening to the live feed, I can't seem to find the eta's for any of them. The FlightAware website seems to be mainly the US, and not much on Warsaw. Unless I'm missing an important link of course...
I'm a bit slow - just realised you can check the flights against the arrivals on the airport website. This could be addictive...
Bring me the man, and I'll show you the anorak... Good blog, BTW Yeller, I shall add it to my blogroll.
And time to summon a Warsaw blogmeet, is it not?
